Dermaplaning FAQ

Dermaplaning is manual exfoliation using a medical-grade blade at 45 degree angle to gently scrape off dead skin cells and peach fuzz hair, leaving the skin glowing and smooth. It enhances the absorption of skin care products and allows make-up to apply smoother. Dermaplaning can be performed alone or to prepare the skin for other treatments such as chemical peels, microneedling, and therapeutic face treatments. 

How We Customize Dermaplaning:

Dermaplaning can be customized to include alginate peel-off mask, a peel, or therapeutic treatments such as detoxifying pore treatment to enhance results. Our signature Dermaplaning Facial combines dermaplaning with a selected alginate peel-off mask for the ultimate soothing exfoliation treatment.

- Avoid sun exposure and tanning bed 10 days before treatment

- Avoid botox or fillers 2 weeks prior to treatment

- Discontinue tretinoin, retinol, retin-A, Differin, Tazorac, any topical prescriptions 3 days prior to the treatment.

- Discontinue Accutane / Epuris 6 months prior to treatment. 

- Avoid waxing 7 days prior to treatment

- Apply hydrating products

- Do not use any manual exfoliation 3-7 days post-treatment (ex. Clarisonic, scrub, microdermabrasion)

- Avoid retinol 3 days post-treatment

- Avoid makeup for 24 hours post-treatment

- Avoid hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, chlorinated pools for 48 hours

- Avoid sun exposure and tanning bed for 48 hours. Wear a physical sunscreen SPF30 or higher.

It is recommended to receive a dermaplaning treatment monthly to achieve optimum results.

No, hair will not grow back thicker or darker. 

Dermaplaning itself can take up to 20 minutes

Yes. Dermaplaning is an alternative to chemical peels because it's simply manual exfoliation without any chemicals. 

No, there is no downtime with dermaplaning. You can return to work and normal activities immediately. There is slight redness that subsides in 1 hour. Avoiding sun exposure is recommended.

Dermaplaning is safe for all skin types and for those who want a non-invasive and chemical-free exfoliation treatment that focuses on quick treatment sessions and no recovery time. Those who want to treat poor skin tone, acne scars, unwanted facial hair, large or clogged pores, dry skin, fine lines and wrinkles can achieve great success with dermaplaning treatments. Retail dermaplaning tools lack precision design in order to scrape certain areas of the face such as the corners of nose. They also do not have the same sharpness as medical-grade blades to remove dead skin cells and vellus hair. It is also very hard to perform dermaplaning on yourself in front of the mirror and leads to small cuts to the skin. In-office dermaplaning involves using an actual surgical handle and blade, exactly the ones that surgeons use in the operating room. The blade is packaged individually, sterile, and for single-use. The blade will never be sterilized and re-used on the next patient. The blade has a round tip which allows us to get to corners like the nose, mouth and in-between the eyebrows. A nurse or esthecian must be trained to use this tool.
